They work differently. With Intel, idle/low loads cut voltage and speeds across all cores, but all cores remain active and any background tasks get bounced between all the cores depending on which one is free. So temps for individual cores are all an average use. With Ryzen, it has such higher core counts, that it just shuts down almost all the cores if not in use, and keeps just 1 core active. All of the background tasks use just that 1 core, so you end up with higher usage, and therefore higher temps. But it's 1 core, not the whole cpu like Intel. #4 In bios/software your fans are set at a default curve, which starts a slow climb from @ 30°C minimum duty cycle to 70°C maximum duty cycle. Only the way the curve works it climbs very fast at the @ 50° to 70° markAlmost like this. With as high as Ryzens sit at idle, the curve is already beyond the low, slow at the beginning and into starting on the fast vertical climb, so any temp changes from load starts (very common an expected with windows background tasks) will make the fans ramp fast. The cure is to adjust the curve to be slower to respond, bump the starting temp from 30ish upto your normal idle temps, with a slow rise to @ 50ish and make the 60ish + the high rise. You have Ryzen, not Intel. Check the Thermal Throttling entries too, how often did it get past 93c and actually trigger Thermal Throttling. The trick with G751's is to use Intel Extreme Tuning Utility to detune Core 3,4 multipliers down a couple of steps, and increase the Core 1/2 multipliers to Maximum. That way you get best performance for all 1/2 threaded tasks (most of the time), and reduce temps for 3 and 4 threaded or more tasks. For example, if the maximum settings for multipliers are 36x,35x,34x,34x Cores and 36x Cache - set them to 36x,35x,30x,30x and do the run again. Adjust Cores 3/4 multiplier to not cause Thermal Throttling under rendering load.Intel Extreme Tuning Utility - 5.1.2.2 is a sample view of XTU settings, your CPU multiplier slider may go higherPlease give it a try and let us know how it works out 🙂. Tiers.
#1 Real Temp 3.00 was released today at techPowerUp! "RealTemp got its major face-lift today with the introduction of the third major version. RealTemp is a nifty utility used to monitor the temperatures of Intel processors, with a breakdown of temperatures on a per-core and T-junction basis. The application makes use of the digital thermal sensor component Intel Core series processors come with. With version 3.00, RealTemp gets Core i7 friendly, supporting monitoring of its temperatures, including in Turbo Mode, where the software controls frequencies and power of individual processing cores. The new release adds a host of features including plug-in support for RivaTuner, the ability to report temperatures of NVIDIA graphics cards, updated detection algorithms as per Intel specifications, and several UI improvements. The release covers as many as a hundred changes that include preliminary support for the Microsoft Windows 7 operating system. For a list of major changes and other information, head over to the RealTemp" Download techPowerUp! :: Download Real Temp 3.00Homepage Real Temp - CPU temperature monitoring Installation and Calibration Real Temp - Documentation Interesting read on TJMax values, especially this part; "Based on my testing and reports from users, a 5C difference doesn't seem too unusual with 65nm and TJMax might vary by 10C in the 45 nm CPUs. The result is that two CPUs with the exact same model number might have different TJMax values and it also seems that there are situations where cores on the same CPU can have different TJMax values. For the 45nm processors, TJ Target and TJ Max seem to be similar but for the older 65nm CPUs, actual TJ Max can be 10C or higher for many processors." #3 Thanks for the info - sticky updated..
