What is the difference between National Weather Service NEXRAD Doppler radar and Live Doppler 9?NEXRAD Doppler radar is the name of the radar system maintained by the National Weather Service. The National Weather Service operates a network of NEXRAD Doppler radars all across the United States. These are some of the most powerful radars to monitor weather conditions. However, it takes at least six minutes for NEXRAD Doppler radar to make a complete scan of the sky. These radars scan many different levels of the sky looking for different weather features. Because NEXRAD radars scan different levels, it takes longer to receive an updated radar image. Once that data is available, it has to be sent to computers in the KTRE Weather Center and then compiled before you can see it on TV. By the time you see a National Weather Service radar image, it is anywhere from six to 15 minutes old.Live Doppler 9 is owned and operated exclusively by KTRE. Our radar only scans one level of the atmosphere closest to the earth's surface. Live Doppler 9 can make a complete scan of the sky in just 16 seconds. That gives us a live, real-time view of storms in our area. We no longer have to wait six to 15 minutes to see an old radar image. With Live Doppler 9, we can track storms in real time down to street level. That means we can pinpoint exactly where a storm is located and where it is headed.KTRE Meteorologists use Live Doppler 9 in addition to radar data from the National Weather service to keep our viewers informed with the latest weather information. DEEP EAST TEXAS (KTRE) - The combination of clear skies, light winds, and dry air will make for a chilly night across the Piney Woods of deep east Texas as overnight lows cool into the lower 40′s. A few upper 30′s are possible for residents mainly north of Highway 7 in the low-lying, rural parts of our viewing area.Friday will be sunny and pleasant with low humidity and light winds. Highs will be in the middle 70′s.High pressure will stay close by on Friday and Saturday to keep the good weather vibes rolling right along as we round out the week and head into the weekend. This means we will be in store for chilly mornings giving way to mild, but comfortable, afternoons with lots of blue sky and low humidity in east Texas. The next 48 hours will provide with you a great opportunity to get outside and soak up some vitamin ‘D’ while also partaking in some refreshing air as well.We will see changes start to return to our area by the time we transition toward Sunday. That is when southeast winds become breezy. This will lead to more clouds rolling back in to go along with higher humidity levels and warming temperatures and a slight chance of a brief shower late Sunday. Our next western storm system will then track further south and start to bring back thicker clouds and ramp up our rain and thunderstorm chances on Monday as low pressure tracks through the southern plains. We will hang on to a low-end rain chance early Tuesday morning as it will remain mild with the approach of our first cold front. We will then be tracking a second and much stronger cold front for next Wednesday that will bring us the chilliest air we have experiences so far this fall season. This means morning lows could dip into the upper 30′s while daytime highs only reach the 50′s to lower 60′s by late next week. In other words, if you have been waiting to pull out the sweaters and boots with the fur, then you will get your chance late next week to do just that as a late fall chill finally embarks on our part of the state. To stay on top of the weather conditions in your neighborhood, make sure you download and frequent our KTRE First Alert weather mobile application. DEEP EAST TEXAS (KTRE) - Our stretch of mild mornings giving way to warm afternoons under lots of sunshine will be on full display as we round out the week and transition into this first, full weekend of October. This means our wake-up temperatures and morning lows will generally be in the middle-to-upper 60′s with daytime highs warming to around 90-degrees each afternoon. This is several degrees above average with October getting off to a warm and dry start.Unfortunately, our prospects for rain look rather meager at this time. That means burn bans and some drought conditions could re-surface by the middle part of the month if we do not receive any notable, wetting rains in the next couple of weeks.A stalled out frontal boundary in the northern Gulf of Mexico will combine with deep moisture to lead to rain chances returning north toward the Texas coastline. At this time, we feel most, if not all, of the rain we see in Texas this weekend will likely be to our south, keeping most of us dry. We will, however, add a low-end, 20% chance of rain to our First Alert forecast for Saturday to account for that moisture return to our south. What we are also monitoring a low-end, 30% chance of tropical cyclone development somewhere in the central Gulf of Mexico by this weekend or early next week. With an early week cold front expected to sweep through east Texas and push out into the Gulf, there will be no concerns for any tropical mischief coming our way as the moisture will be shunted to the northeast Gulf of Mexico. This early week cold frontal passage will be a modestly stronger cold front than the past couple of fronts that have blown through the Piney Woods. With this being a dry frontal passage, our skies will remain clear with starlit nights giving way to sun-filled days all of next week. This will lead to overnight lows cooling down into the upper 50′s by the middle of next week, which would lead to some chilly mornings and ‘not as warm’ afternoons. To stay on top of the weather conditions in your neighborhood, make sure you download and frequent our KTRE First Alert weather mobile application. It gives you access to our First Alert forecast, severe weather alerts, interactive radar, and featured video updates. It is weather on the go, when you want it, at EAST TEXAS (KTRE/KLTV) - It will be another cool, crisp night under clear skies with lows dropping into the lower-to-middle 50′s across east Texas.Monday will be another gorgeous September day as the cool start gives way to a warm afternoon under sun-filled skies and daytime highs reaching the middle-to-upper 80′s.All eyes will be on the Gulf this week as we are monitoring Potential Storm Six, which is expected to intensify into a tropical storm on Monday and possible, a hurricane by that time it nears the northern Gulf coast region by Wednesday.Based on the current track of this potential tropical cyclone, our impacts will mainly be felt in the far southern reaches of east Texas. This would be for residents in Jasper, Newton, Sabine, and Tyler counties where some gusty winds and more heavier rains will be felt as we get into Wednesday.Deep east Texas will likely get rain, but at this time, rainfall amounts look manageable with one-to-two inches expected on Wednesday.Residents along and north of Interstate 20 may not receive much rain at all with minimal-to-no impacts expected north of Tyler and Longview. It should be noted that these impacts assume a track into southwest Louisiana, which would put us on the drier and cleaner side of the storm. However, if this track shifts further west and more toward the upper Texas coast, then our impacts will be more significant, meaning we would see heavier rainfall and stronger wind gusts encroach on our region. NACOGDOCHES, Texas (KTRE) - Thursday night’s severe weather resulted in major damage to homes and residential areas in Nacogdoches County. One home in particular was struck by a fallen tree on the 6500 block of Appleby Sand Road. Many Nacogdoches County roads have re-opened after being closed due to downed trees and power lines from last night’s storms. Crews have been clearing 33 closed Nacogdoches County roads.Road and Bridge administrator for the county, Doyle Williams, said his crews began getting calls last night about downed trees and power lines and have been working ever since.KTRE's Avery Gorman reports on weather damage in Nacogdoches.“It’s been going all day to try and clean up some of the mess, and we still got a lot to clean up. We’ve had good luck, and everything is open that we know of at this point,” Williams said.He said the majority of the downed trees were in the north-west region of the county.“Out at 343 on the west side there were a couple of roads that got hit pretty hard. So that was probably the worst that we had.”Williams said crews moved the debris and tagged it, they started the clean-up process this afternoon and they expect it to continue throughout this next week.“We have not seen any damage to personal property that we have seen. Maybe some fenced roads and stuff like that,” Williams said.Nacogdoches County Emergency Management Information Officer, Abby Scorsonelli said the National Weather Service is going to survey damage.“So they send teams out in various areas where reports of damage have occurred to determine was there cyclone activity. So we’ll hear back from them. There may have been some activity around the Timpson area,” Scorsonelli said.Williams said he’s thankful no one was hurt; “It could have happened really easy if people hadn’t stayed home and had been on the road at that time, we’re blessed.”The Texas Department of Emergency Management is asking for people to fill out their voluntary form to report damage to their area.
