They are stored in the cloud but are encrypted on your end, so even if the whole LastPass company were compromised no one could get your passwords. They are also stored in encrypted form on your device so you don't need internet access to access them. All you will need to remember ever again is one password, that is the password to de-encrypt all your other ones. At current decryption rates it would take the US government about 4 years to de-encrypt a 12 digit password. Even the anomaly he was his last 4 years he had 41 sacks. Even as great as he was you can't beat father time.
