My M11 is set to Eco Modus and paired with an iPhone 13. On that one, Leica Fotos is enabled to have full access to geo data and is running in the background. In Leica Fotos, the M11 is paired (I had to redo the pairing with the recent Firmware update) Geotagging is set to always allowed. Once switched on, the camera automatically connects via Bluetooth to the phone and retrieves geo data. As said before, it only takes a few seconds and does not require any interaction. Power consumption is insignificant - both on camera and phone. It already worked flawlessly with firmware 1.6.1, it only took a bit longer to establish the bluetooth connection. On my Q2 (bluetooth on) it works equally reliable (just needing more time to establish the bluetooth connection (maybe 10-20 sec). I remember, when I had the Q2 new, it was a nightmare and I had turned off geo tagging and Leica Fotos was an unused "icon" on the phone (and I never tested it seriously with my M10). But meanwhile it works very reliable (at least with an iPhone - tested iPhone X and 13 and iOS versions 16 and 17). Just an interesting observation: While the M11 shows up in the iOS bluetooth connection list (and switches to "connected" when exchanging data), the Q2 only shows up in Fotos. Although both use bluetooth, they seem to use different implementations (probably protocol variants).

In terms of the products being discussed, this is an ancient thread. Also, it might be helpful to mention the cameras and mobiles involved. Leica FOTOS consists of two parts. One runs on the camera, the other on the phone. For each part there are different variants, written to run on different phone and camera architectures. In this vein: With the Leica CL and an Android (#11) phone, the pictures shot in both DNG and JPG format are recognized and displayed on the phone, but only after a very noticeable delay of perhaps five to ten seconds. Also, it seems that the app only shows pictures taken under control of that app. I don't know how it does this, as the pictures are all in the same subdirectory under DCIM. Most likely it keeps a list somewhere of pictures taken with the FOTOS app, but it just as soon could tag them within the image files.
