After downloading the app, he completed the Sound Match test to personalize the devices to his ears while wearing over-the-ear headphones. This, he explains, was likely where he went wrong, as the customer service representative explained that wearing headphones can interfere with the signal between the app and the Eargos, making them uncomfortably loud.“[The customer support representative] was fantastic, and she made the product experience [positive] for me,” he says. “I’m thinking I’ll be wearing these [hearing aids] a lot more.”Eargo 7 ships with medium closed petals, silicone comfort tips that maximize amplification across the sound range, according to the company. However, if your own voice is still noticeable after wearing closed petals for a week or two, Eargo recommends trying open petals. Schnurman opted for the open petal style.“I’m wearing open petals, which let more natural sound in, as my lower frequencies below 2k Hz are fine,” he says. “I find using the medium petals to be as if there’s nothing in my ears at all. Sometimes they itch a little, but it’s totally manageable.”The Eargo 7 hearing aids are invisible in Schnurman’s ears.Eargo 7 hearing aids are completely-in-canal (CIC) devices, making them virtually invisible. In fact, Schnurman notes the lack of visibility to be one of his favorite aspects of these hearing aids. “You can’t see the Eargos from the outside,” he explains. On the other hand, Schnurman disliked that the Eargo 7 hearing aids didn’t offer media or phone call streaming via Bluetooth connectivity. He also describes the cap for the hearing aids case as “cheap and flimsy.”“I woke up and the cap [to the charging case] was gone,” says Schnurman. “It could’ve been jostled into the garbage by the cat, but the point is I can’t find it anywhere. I called in to ask Eargo if they could send me a replacement, and they said they couldn’t— and to buy a new charger is $395, which is exorbitant. They recommended using a hairband to keep the hearing aids in, but I don’t see how that would work.”When comparing his Eargo 7 hearing aids to his prescription Oticon More 1 hearing aids, Schnurman acknowledges there’s a difference in sound. “My Oticon More 1s have better sound, as well as Bluetooth streaming,” he says. “If these were cars, I’d have to say that the Oticon
