I realize this is an arranger specific forum, but I know that a number of arranger players here (including myself) also utilize Cakewalk 'Sonar' sequencing software for recording & editing (post production) their arranger keyboard and vocal performances. I currently own Sonar XL (version 1.31) and primarily use it to record my Yamaha PSR2000 keyboard performances (midi tracks) with vocals (digital audio tracks). What are the benefits of upgrading to 'Sonar 2.0' ($79) or 'Sonar 2.0 XL' ($169). Anyone here upgraded from Sonar 1.31 to 2.0? Does the 'XL version' have any useful features worth paying the extra money? Recommendations & advice appreciated. Thanks. - Scott_________________________Top#137472 - 09/30/02 11:03 AMRe: Worth Upgrading from Sonar XL 1.31 to 2.0?The ProSenior MemberRegistered: 07/09/02Posts: 1087Loc: Atlanta, GeorgiaI went straight to Sonar 2.0 myself and never used the earlier versions so I don't know much about the differences. But I do know that some DirectX plug-ins won't work with Sonar versions prior to 2.0. I am currently using the Antares Pitch-Correction and the BBS Maximizer plug-ins, which work nicely. Sonar 2.0 reportedly has better Rewire implementation for Reason users like myself. Also the new Yamaha OPT panels only work with Sonar 2.0. I'm sure there's more differences between the versions, but overall Sonar seems to be the one audio/midi program that is really worth the effort to own and use so I would do the upgrade. I purposely did not go with the XL version because I have Sound Forge, which has great mastering features that appear better than what the XL version of Sonar offers._________________________Jim EshlemanTop#137473 - 09/30/02 11:15 AMRe: Worth Upgrading from Sonar XL 1.31 to 2.0?DnjSenior MemberRegistered: 09/21/00Posts: 43703pro do you have an email?Top#137474 - 09/30/02 12:20 PMRe: Worth Upgrading from Sonar XL 1.31 to 2.0?freddynlSenior MemberRegistered: 11/17/99Posts: 1150Loc: netherlandsSo far I did not upgrade yet as I don't use much plug ins. The reason I am advising to uninstall: It’s a 2-way communications tool where you can see other people’s computer contents while they see yours. To my knowledge, the only OPT panels Yamaha has released so far are for the Motif and the Tyros (the stand-alone voice and file management programs that ship with the Tyros are also OPT panels). This allows you to open a voice editor from within Sonar 2.0 instead of having to use a completely seperate voice-editing program. As Yamaha says:Cakewalk SONAR 1 XL - SONAR is the new Midi hard disk
It's highly unlikely any Win 7 updates will have any affect on SPLAT. Win 7 is practically unsupported by Microsoft, with only security updates now being delivered. Cakewalk Inc. was pretty good in writing a "well behaved" DAW - by that I mean it uses the Windows API they way it should be used, and avoids hacks. I've got Pro Audio 9, Sonar XL, Sonar 3, Sonar 5, Sonar 8, Sonar 8.5, Sonar X1, Sonar X2, Sonar X3 & SPLAT installed on my Win 7 32 bit. All work without issue (well, none I've found in any case). [Edit] - It's worth adding, I hardly ever use my Win 7 boot nowadays. It's only there for old projects that have had issues migrating (which I've all fixed now), and for the odd hardware synth editor that is 16 bit. CbB works like a dream for me, with only very minor quirks that don't cause me any issues. Edited February 25, 2019 by msmcleodmixing to stereo in Sonar XL

I have gone to the store, tried to purchase it but it keeps telling me that I have to get the purchase verified by Cakewalk to finish purchase. No links, no other help just that....I have to get verified. It tells me to contact Cakewalk (which I have done) And am waiting some sort of help and assistance. Anyone else have any ideas what I am doing incorrectly? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!!!!!! I can find no reference to a Sonar 8 Home Studio. The last numbered Home Studio version appears to be 7. Can't say for sure because I only worked with the XL, Producer and Platinum series. There was a SONAR 8 Studio. It was never available as a download. There was an upgrade download available for SONAR 8.5 but it required SONAR 8 be installed before using the upgrade installer. AFAIK, X1 was the first full version of SONAR available for download. The oldest version of SONAR I have installed is X2 and that plug-in was discontinued by that time. So, I do not have it installed. Pretty sure the Cakewalk tuner was a 32/64bit DX plug-in. If the projects were created using a 32bit version of SONAR, the tuner will not load in CbB. There are a variety of tuner plug-ins free and paid. There is a tuner in TH3 which is bundled with CbB. As mentioned above MeldaProduction offers a free one. GVST is another source for a free tuner.. 2025-04-19Sonar 2.0). I decided to just upgrade from 1.31 to 2.0 for your other mentioned reasons. I've also read that Sonar 2.0 is much stabler than version 1.31.Quote:Originally posted by The Pro:the new Yamaha OPT panels only work with Sonar 2.0. The reason I am advising to uninstall: It’s a 2-way communications tool where you can see other people’s computer contents while they see yours. If you uninstall it immediately after downloading Sonar you’ll be safe.N.B. If you have an old 486 with 500 MB HD you can dedicate it for all Kazaa downloads.Maged Top#137477 - 09/30/02 04:02 PMRe: Worth Upgrading from Sonar XL 1.31 to 2.0?ScottyeeSenior MemberRegistered: 12/01/99Posts: 10427Loc: San Francisco Bay Area, CA, US... And the people who make their living with these products are entitled to be paid for their work.Terry[This message has been edited by trtjazz (edited 09-30-2002).]_________________________jam on,Terry - 09/30/02 08:21 PMRe: Worth Upgrading from Sonar XL 1.31 to 2.0?BuleriaChkMemberRegistered: 06/15/02Posts: 53Loc: Santa Barbara,CA,USAIMO, I think SONAR 2.0 XL is worth it for the DR-008 alone. Makes it real easy to use your samples in a drum kit, especially if you have the voices in an instrument list.Chuck_________________________www.flamencochuck.comTop#137480 - 10/01/02 07:14 AMRe: Worth Upgrading from Sonar XL 1.31 to 2.0?The ProSenior MemberRegistered: 07/09/02Posts: 1087Loc: Atlanta, GeorgiaScott: Yamaha's Open Plug-in Technology or OPT panels are control panels and/or voice editors that work within other programs like Sonar 2.0. As Yamaha says:
2025-04-24It's highly unlikely any Win 7 updates will have any affect on SPLAT. Edited February 25, 2019 by msmcleod
